The strongest ManageEngine alternatives for ServiceDesk Plus teams in 2026 are ServiceNow ITSM for large enterprises, Freshservice for mid-market teams, and Jira Service Management for IT teams already on Jira. Ivanti Neurons for ITSM, BMC Helix ITSM, SolarWinds Service Desk and HaloITSM complete the list. This guide covers ServiceDesk Plus, ManageEngine's ITSM product, not its endpoint tools. If a renewal, a cloud move or a feature gap has you looking around, you get prices, dated ratings and a plain account of what switching off ServiceDesk Plus takes.
Key takeaways
- ServiceDesk Plus on-premises starts at $13 (Standard), $27 (Professional) and $67 (Enterprise) per technician per month, with problem, change and CMDB sold as add-ons below Enterprise (ManageEngine pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026).
- Freshservice, Jira Service Management, SolarWinds Service Desk and HaloITSM publish prices; ServiceNow, Ivanti and BMC Helix quote on request (vendor pages, as of 7 Oct 2026).
- On G2, ServiceDesk Plus holds 4.2/5 from 251 reviews. The six alternatives with more than 50 G2 reviews range from 3.7/5 (BMC Helix ITSM, 297 reviews) to 4.6/5 (Freshservice, 1,359 reviews) (G2, as of 7 Oct 2026).
- Even ManageEngine's own on-premises to cloud migration does not carry SLAs, request life cycles or history tab details (ServiceDesk Plus help, as of 7 Oct 2026). Plan for the same gaps on any other platform.

Why ServiceDesk Plus teams look at alternatives
ManageEngine says ServiceDesk Plus is PinkVERIFY certified for five ITSM practices, offers on-premises, public cloud and SaaS deployment (ServiceDesk Plus Enterprise page, as of 7 Oct 2026), and was named a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for IT Service Management Platforms. Four reasons push teams to look elsewhere.
Add-on gating. Problem management ($1,195), change and release management ($2,395) and the service catalog ($1,195) are add-ons on Standard and Professional. CMDB is not available on Standard and costs $1,195 on Professional. All four are included in Enterprise (ManageEngine pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026). A team that grows into ITIL processes either stacks add-ons or moves up an edition.
Cloud repricing. On-premises is priced per technician per month. Cloud is sold as annual bundles, such as Professional from $645 a year and Enterprise from $1,595 a year, each for 2 technicians and 250 assets (ManageEngine pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026).
Setup effort. G2 reviewers list ease of use and features among the pros, and complexity, complex setup and the learning curve among the cons (G2, as of 7 Oct 2026). G2 reviewers say similar things about Ivanti.
Platform strategy. Some organizations want ITSM on the same platform as HR, facilities or engineering work.
The ServiceDesk Plus alternatives and competitors, platform by platform
Each card covers what the platform is, who it suits, price, rating and migration notes for a ServiceDesk Plus source.
1. ServiceNow ITSM
What it is: ITSM on the Now Platform, sold as Foundation, Advanced and Prime. CMDB sits in Foundation. Problem, change, major incident and on-call management sit in Advanced (ServiceNow ITSM pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026). ServiceNow says it is a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for ITSM Platforms.
Best for: large enterprises with a platform team and plans beyond IT.
Price and rating: no public prices; the pricing page says "Get Custom Quote". G2 4.5/5 from 1,990 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: the documented bulk-load route is the Import Set API, which stages rows in import set tables and applies transform maps (ServiceNow docs, as of 7 Oct 2026). Someone has to build and test every transform map, so without ServiceNow developers in house, budget for a partner.
2. Freshservice
What it is: Freshworks' cloud ITSM, with Starter $19, Growth $49 and Pro $99 per agent per month billed annually, and Enterprise on custom pricing. Problem and change management start on Pro (Freshservice pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026). Freshworks says it is a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for ITSM Platforms (29 Jul 2026).
Best for: mid-market IT teams that want cloud ITSM with published prices. Budget for Pro if you use problem or change today.
Price and rating: from $19 per agent per month. G2 4.6/5 from 1,359 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: Freshservice documents no self-service ServiceDesk Plus importer. A Freshservice Community Manager wrote that Freshservice would "perform a CSV migration from our end", or customers could script against the API (Freshworks Community, 19 Nov 2021). The Bulk API for tickets and notes is limited to Freshservice data migration partners, at 50 records per request, and Freshworks marks its rate limits "[To be confirmed post load testing]" (Freshservice support, as of 7 Oct 2026).
3. Jira Service Management
What it is: Atlassian's service desk, sold in the Service Collection: Free (up to 3 agents), Standard $20 and Premium $51.42 per agent per month, and Enterprise on quote. Change management and advanced incident and problem management are in Premium (Atlassian pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026). It is cloud only; Data Center closed to new customers on 30 Mar 2026 (Atlassian, as of 7 Oct 2026).
Best for: IT teams whose engineers already live in Jira.
Price and rating: from $20 per agent per month. G2 4.3/5 from 986 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: Atlassian recommends about 1,500 work items per CSV file, roughly an hour each. Statuses map only to existing workflow statuses, and imported comments become public in service spaces. SLAs keep counting on CSV-imported closed issues, because JSM calculates SLAs from issue history (Atlassian support, as of 7 Oct 2026). Plan the SLA fix before loading closed tickets.
4. Ivanti Neurons for ITSM
What it is: Ivanti's ITSM platform ("Ivanti ITSM" on its product page). Ivanti says it is "certified by PinkVERIFY as supporting 14 core ITIL 4 processes", including configuration management, and runs "in the cloud, on-premises or as a hybrid combination" (Ivanti product page, as of 7 Oct 2026).
Best for: teams that need on-premises, with more PinkVERIFY-certified processes.
Price and rating: not published; the page points to Contact Sales. G2 4.0/5 from 294 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: data import connections accept CSV, XLS and XML uploads, with a default 250 MB file limit and up to 5,000 rows per Excel file (Ivanti documentation, as of 7 Oct 2026). Large histories need many files or the API.
5. BMC Helix ITSM
What it is: BMC Helix's enterprise ITSM platform, covering incident and problem, change and release, service level management, CMDB and AI agents (BMC Helix product page, as of 7 Oct 2026). BMC Helix says it is a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for ITSM Platforms for the 10th time (3 Aug 2026).
Best for: large, regulated enterprises with complex change needs.
Price and rating: no public price; the page offers "Request Pricing". G2 3.7/5 from 297 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: BMC splits migration data into foundation data (companies, sites, people, categorization), process setup data and transactional data. It prefers Atrium Integrator and offers data load spreadsheets for messy sources (BMC Helix documentation, as of 7 Oct 2026). Load foundation data first, or tickets will not find their owners.
6. SolarWinds Service Desk
What it is: a SaaS service desk at Essentials $39, Advanced $99 and Premier $124 per technician per month, billed annually. Essentials lists change management, CMDB, service catalog and SLAs; API access starts on Advanced. Data centers are in the United States, European Union or Australia (SolarWinds pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026).
Best for: SMB and mid-market teams that want change and CMDB in the entry plan.
Price and rating: from $39 per technician per month. G2 4.3/5 from 787 reviews (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: SolarWinds publishes a migration guide for its own Web Help Desk, not for ServiceDesk Plus (SolarWinds documentation, as of 7 Oct 2026). Loading history by script needs Advanced or Premier for API access.
7. HaloITSM
What it is: an ITSM platform at £66 per agent per month billed annually, with "No tiers, no bolt-ons". Change, problem, CMDB and Halo AI are included and end users are free (Halo pricing page, as of 7 Oct 2026). Halo lists Halo Cloud, Private Cloud and On-Premise deployment and says it is a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for ITSM Platforms.
Best for: teams that want every module at one price, including on-premises.
Price and rating: published; onboarding packages cost extra at a bespoke price. Capterra 4.7/5 from 44 reviews; G2 shows 4.8/5 from only 22 (as of 7 Oct 2026).
Migration notes: Halo says it has a dedicated migration team (Halo ITSM page, as of 7 Oct 2026). Ask what it moves as standard.
ManageEngine vs ServiceNow, Freshservice and the rest: comparison table
"ITIL practices" is what each vendor states on its own pages.
| Platform | ITIL practices (vendor-stated) | CMDB | Deployment | Pricing model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceDesk Plus | PinkVERIFY, five ITSM practices | $1,195 add-on on Professional; in Enterprise; not on Standard | On-premises, public cloud, SaaS | Per technician (on-premises); annual bundles (cloud); add-ons |
| ServiceNow ITSM | Problem, change, major incident in Advanced | From Foundation | Cloud; self-hosted Private Stack for restricted environments | Packages, custom quote |
| Freshservice | Problem and change from Pro | In the ITAM Growth package, from Growth | Cloud, choice of data center | Per agent, four plans |
| Jira Service Management | Change and advanced problem in Premium | Assets, part of the Service Collection | Cloud (Data Center closed to new customers) | Per agent, four plans |
| Ivanti Neurons for ITSM | PinkVERIFY, 14 core ITIL 4 processes | Configuration management among the 14 | Cloud, on-premises, hybrid | Custom quote |
| BMC Helix ITSM | Incident, problem, change, release, service level | Included | SaaS and BMC Helix ITSM OnPrem | Custom quote |
| SolarWinds Service Desk | Change in Essentials | From Essentials | SaaS (US, EU, Australia) | Per technician, three plans |
| HaloITSM | Change and problem included | Included | Halo Cloud, private cloud, on-premises | One price per agent |
Sources, as of 7 Oct 2026: vendor pages and docs; ServiceNow employee post on Private Stack (1 May 2026).
List price is only part of the bill. ServiceDesk Plus add-ons, ServiceNow packages and Halo onboarding packages all change the real number.
How to choose a ServiceDesk Plus alternative
Answer these in order to pick an alternative to ManageEngine. Each one narrows the list.
- Do you need on-premises? If yes, look at Ivanti, BMC Helix ITSM OnPrem and HaloITSM. ServiceNow's Private Stack targets sovereign and air-gapped environments, so confirm eligibility.
- Which ITIL practices do you run today? List the ServiceDesk Plus modules and add-ons you actually use. If you run problem and change, compare Freshservice Pro, Jira Premium or ServiceNow Advanced, not entry plans.
- How many agents, and how fast will that grow? A $20 monthly gap per agent is $240 per agent per year.
- Where does engineering work live? If developers work in Jira, Jira Service Management keeps incidents and fixes together. If HR and facilities need desks too, weigh ServiceNow or HaloITSM.
- How much history must move, and who moves it? Full history, open work only, or an archive plus active records. That choice drives cost and risk.
Switching off ServiceDesk Plus: what moves and what does not
Switching off ServiceDesk Plus means exporting records, rebuilding configuration and choosing what history to keep. No vendor here documents a one-click ServiceDesk Plus importer, so the move runs through files, APIs or a migration service.
Your export options. There are three routes, each with limits.
- Reports export to HTML, PDF, XLS, XLSX, CSV, DOC, DOCX or XML, with no row limit stated (ServiceDesk Plus help, as of 7 Oct 2026). They give flat rows, not conversations or attachments.
- On-premises backups hold the database and file attachments in .ezip files in current builds. A trimmed backup leaves out attachments, inline images and custom and archive folders. ManageEngine notes data "can be restored only across same builds", so a backup is a safety copy, not an import file for another tool (ServiceDesk Plus help, as of 7 Oct 2026).
- REST API v3 returns requests and notes, with fields such as show_to_requester, due_by_time and is_overdue. List calls return 10 rows by default and page with start_index (ManageEngine API docs, as of 7 Oct 2026).
What ManageEngine's own migration leaves behind. The built-in on-premises to cloud migration does not move "Service Level Agreements and Request Life Cycle", history tab details or associations between requests and changes, and attachments over 48 MB do not transfer (ServiceDesk Plus help, as of 7 Oct 2026). If ManageEngine's own tool cannot carry these, expect to handle them by hand on any other platform.
| Moves (with mapping) | Rebuilt on the target | At risk |
|---|---|---|
| Requests, incidents and their fields | SLA definitions and running SLA timers | Request history tab and audit trail |
| Notes, with public or private visibility mapped | Request life cycles, workflows and business rules | Links between requests, problems and changes |
| Requesters, technicians and groups | Templates, categories and the priority matrix | Original created dates, where the target API cannot set them |
| Solutions (knowledge articles) | Notifications, automations and approvals | Attachments above target size limits |
| Assets and CIs, if the target has a CMDB | Reports and dashboards | CI relationships between assets |
Sources: ServiceDesk Plus and target vendor docs, as of 7 Oct 2026.
Workflows, automations, business rules and SLA definitions never migrate between ITSM platforms; they are rebuilt. The history they produced, such as which tickets breached, survives only if you carry it as data. Make reconciliation (record counts, plus a sample of tickets compared field by field) a go/no-go gate before cutover.
ServiceDesk Plus switching checklist
- List the edition, add-ons and modules you actually use.
- Count technicians, requesters, requests and attachments.
- Note your deployment (on-premises or cloud) and build number.
- Shortlist two or three alternatives with the five questions above.
- Get written quotes including onboarding.
- Decide the history scope: full, active only, or archive plus active.
- Take a full backup and keep it as a safety copy.
- Map statuses, priorities, groups and note visibility.
- Rebuild SLAs, workflows and templates before loading data.
- Run a test migration and reconcile counts and fields.
- Agree a freeze window, cutover plan and delta sync.
- Run hypercare, then archive ServiceDesk Plus on a set date.

Methodology
We built this list from the ITSM platforms on G2's ServiceDesk Plus alternatives page, plus HaloITSM, keeping only those with sourceable prices or a stated custom-quote policy. Prices, packaging and deployment come from vendor pages; ratings from G2, or Capterra where G2 has fewer than 50 reviews. Migration notes come from ManageEngine and target vendor docs, checked on 7 Oct 2026. We did not run hands-on tests.
